The New Medic #24 becomes the 32nd full-time ambulance in the NFD Fleet
The Nashville Fire Department added a new ambulance to respond to all-hazards emergency medical calls in Metro Nashville Davidson County.
Medic 24 is a newly added Advanced Life Support ambulance to the Nashville Metro and Davidson County area which brings the total number of full-time ambulances to 32. This ambulance will be in service to provide 24/7 emergency medical services.
Medic 24’s territory is primarily located in the growing Northwest Nashville, (Bordeaux area). Having Medic 24 in this area adds emergency medical response to support residents and local businesses in the area.
This new ambulance will also reduce ambulances stationed in other territories from responding to the Bordeaux area as often. This emergency response ambulance is expected to help reduce response times and run volumes for all medic units.
Even though Medic 24 will be assigned primarily in the Northwest Nashville area, it is available to respond city-wide as needed.
“Our department continues to grow, and we can add more ambulance coverage to the community as a result of the additional staffing provided through Metro Nashville Davidson County’s Operating Budget.” Director Chief William Swann said. We are constantly assessing our call volume and the best way to better serve the residents and visitors of our community.”
The Nashville Fire Department is one of the busiest emergency medical service providers in the Nation.
“It is important for us to continue to expand with the city,” Deputy Director of EMS Operations Fred Smith said. “Not only will this additional ambulance help us reduce response times, but Medic 24 will also help relieve the heavy workload our EMS professionals already have due to the high call volume.
In 2022, NFD Personnel made more than 254,550 medical responses. It was an 8 percent increase when compared to 2021. (235,250)NFD’s EMS division made 81,990 EMS Transports in 2022. That was a 4 percent increase when compared to 2021. (78,680)

Four-Part Series with NBIC and Don Hardin Group Focuses on Preparation for New Stadium and Other Large-Scale Projects
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As part of its ONE Community program, the Tennessee Titans today announced a four-part readiness master class for small and minority-owned businesses, in partnership with the Nashville Business Incubation Center and Don Hardin Group. The tailored, four-part class series will provide business owners and contractors with the tools to build capacity and gain insight on preparing for contracting bids in order to better position themselves for large-scale construction projects, such as the new Titans stadium.
The master class is a component of the Titans’ ONE Community platform focusing on opportunities for small and minority-owned businesses. Other programs focused on opportunity include the 1st and Goal Small Business Support Program, which creates a $2 million fund with Citizens Bank for loans and grants for qualified small and minority-owned businesses, and the Titans Economic Inclusion Program, which commits to an $18/hour minimum wage for employees and a workforce development program to be announced soon.
“The construction of the new stadium is the largest opportunity for inclusion to date in the state of Tennessee, and with the leadership of our owner, Amy Adams Strunk, our organization is committed to maximizing small and minority-owned business participation on this project,” said Johari Matthews, Titans Vice President, Executive Director of the Titans Foundation. “We also want to ensure that we are creating lasting impact in our community even beyond the stadium project, and preparing these businesses and contractors for large-scale projects through this master class is a great step forward towards that goal.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Nashville Justice League, a local progressive political action committee, today announced their plans to reassemble for the upcoming Metro Nashville elections and endorse a slate of justice-aligned candidates at their kickoff party Monday, July 10, 6 p.m. at Roasted Salemtown, 614 Garfield St. Founded in 2019 by three of the city’s biggest grassroots powerhouse organizations–the Central Labor Council of Nashville & Middle Tennessee, TIRRC Votes, and The Equity Alliance Fund–the group represents the intersectional needs of Nashville’s diverse, underserved, working-class communities.
“This election comes at a pivotal time in our city for working families,” said Vonda McDaniel, president of the Central Labor Council. “If we don’t elect the right mix of champions, we risk losing our city to developers, greedy corporations, and a rogue state legislature.”

Coming together to champion an agenda of workers’ rights, immigrant rights and civil rights, the coalition elected to office 13 of their 15 endorsed candidates, leading to improvements for Nashville families such as paying Metro workers a living wage, fully funding Metro Nashville Public Schools, eliminating the rent-a-bed contract between ICE and the Davidson County Sheriff, kicking for-profit prisons out of Davidson County, fighting for abortion rights, protecting trans residents, and appointing House District 52 Representative Justin Jones back to his rightful seat at the state legislature following expulsion.
“For years extremists in the state legislature have tried to tell us how to live, love, and lead while local officials sold our neighborhoods to the highest bidder,” said Lisa Sherman Luna, executive director of TIRRC Votes, the affiliate social welfare arm of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC). “New Americans and longtime Nashvillians alike make this city great. By coming together to vote for progressive champions, we can make sure our leaders fight for our values, defend our democracy, and build a welcoming city that works for all of us.”
“No matter our zip code or skin color, working families agree on what our city needs—inclusive economic development, equitable access to quality healthcare and education, affordable housing, and the dismantling of structural barriers that have blocked our civil rights for far too long,” said Tequila Johnson, executive director of The Equity Alliance Fund. “When our leaders prioritize stadiums over homes, it’s time for Black voters to assert their voice, wield their collective power, and elect the champions that will make these visions for our city a reality.”
Monday’s kickoff party at Roasted (formerly The Local Distro) in historic Salemtown will bring together voters, volunteers, supporters, and representatives from all three organizations, who will announce their slate of endorsed candidates for mayor, vice mayor, and council seats. Ahead of the Aug. 3 general and Sept. 14 runoff elections, the group will deploy a robust grassroots campaign to mobilize voters through mail, digital, phone banking, and door-knocking.
A website has been launched – www.nashvillejusticeleague.org – where residents can take a voter pledge and sign up to volunteer.
On the past Juneteenth weekend, Nashville native Averianna The Personality hosted the third annual Bridge to Broadway party, organized by the National Museum of African-American Music. They took over the 500 block of Broadway. Nestled between the Arena and 5th and Broadway sat a stage where Black Nashville showed up in full force. This was not lost upon Averianna.
“I’ve never seen so many Black people downtown in one area, celebrating and blending in with what many of the clubs on Broadway display: country clubs.”
But Averianna wasn’t alone. She managed to bring in local talents such as Nashville’s most prominent hip-hop artist to date, Young Buck, alongside 2LiveBre, Tim Gent, Mia Reona, and Bubba Sparxxx, who resides in Nashville. During Buck’s performance that evening, he expressed that it was his first-ever performance on Broadway. Reflecting on the moment afterward, Averianna realized she was part of something much bigger than she had ever imagined.
“Everyone showed up for me, which meant a lot, considering this was a big lineup for me. I just wanted to ensure they were all taken care of because I genuinely care. These people are my colleagues and friends. Everyone saw the vision and delivered.”
What vision is Averianna speaking of, you might ask? Well, let’s delve into that.
“I see us, as Black people, rightfully taking back what is ours! I see us circulating the Black dollar, with our businesses, artists, and culture thriving in Music City.”
This vision is growing and Averianna is certainly proud to be at its forefront. Also impressive was the versatility of the artists who performed. While there were rap artists, performers like Black country artist Willie Jones shared the stage with artists like Young Buck and 2LiveBre. Each one who stepped on the stage had the same mission: to represent the Black community.
Averianna was present for the entire process, seeing it through from start to finish. With a broad smile, she relished her time being an integral part of the Bridge over Broadway block party.
“I was just happy to have Dion Brown, Candice Jones, and Shelly Surdoval trust me to do my part in not only an annual event for the National Museum of African-American Music, but a historic event for myself, the city, the hip-hop and R&B community, and Black Nashville overall.
The event was a success, and hopefully, it’s just the beginning of Black Nashville continuing to grow and come together, not only on holidays but all the time.
