To the Editor and the People of Nashville:
Fourteen years ago, the citizens of Davidson County entrusted me to lead the County Clerk’s Office. It has been an honor, a privilege, and one of the highlights of my career. As my time in office comes to a close, I look back on the improvements made and am so grateful for all of the people who made this work possible. Throughout my time in office, I have held one guiding principle, a personal commitment to leave the office better than I found it.
My endorsement of Freda Player as your next County Clerk is rooted in that commitment. As Chair of the Metro Nashville School Board, Freda Player has demonstrated the leadership qualities this office requires: a dedication to community, the capacity for effective administration and accountability, and a servant’s heart that focuses on the work, not the spotlight. Freda has led in moments when decisions were hard and the stakes were higher, and she has risen to every occasion with grace, intellect, and integrity. She does not merely talk about serving the public, she has built her entire career on it.
I have watched Freda Player navigate complexity with calm authority. I have seen her hold the trust of constituents who come from every walk of life. She is the kind of leader who remembers that behind every call answered, every request completed, and every license issued, there is a person who deserves to be served with efficiency, respect, and accuracy. That is why I am confident Freda Player is the right choice to lead the Clerk’s Office.
There should be no confusion about my support. I trust Freda Player and ask voters to entrust her with your vote as you did for me. Help me leave the office better than I found it by allowing me to pass the torch to Freda Player’s very capable hands.
