Fostering Bright Futures for Southeast Nashville Youth Through Education and Opportunity

NASHVILLE, Tenn – eMpowerment Inc. continues its commitment to the youth of Southeast Nashville through the “Dream Big and Go Get It Scholarship.” Now in its sixth year, this scholarship has become a beacon of hope and support for high school students aspiring to further their education. The scholarship, which begins its application period on January 1, 2024, provides financial assistance to dedicated students embarking on their higher education journey.

The scholarship is open to students attending public high schools in Southeast Nashville, including Antioch High, Cane Ridge High, Glencliff High, and any charter high school in the Southeast Nashville District. It also includes students residing in Southeast Nashville but attending public high schools elsewhere in Nashville.

Valued at $1,000, the “Dream Big and Go Get It Scholarship” is awarded annually, with applications accepted from January 1 to March 31. Applicants are required to complete a comprehensive application form, with essays that showcase their educational passion, and submit two letters of recommendation. These letters should come from individuals who can speak to the student’s character and academic potential.

Janelle Douglas, the director of eMpowerment Inc., shares her insight: “Our students in Southeast Nashville face unique challenges, particularly financial ones, that can impede their educational journeys. The ‘Dream Big and Go Get It Scholarship’ is a testament to our belief in their potential and our commitment to supporting them.”

Douglas adds, “This scholarship is more than just financial aid; it’s a way to level the playing field and encourage our students to focus on achieving their academic goals, just like their peers in more affluent areas.”

The scholarship celebrates students who excel academically and are actively involved in their communities, embodying the spirit of Dream Big and Go Get It.’

Douglas reflects on the impact of the scholarship: “Now in its sixth year, we’ve seen how this scholarship can change lives. Our long-term vision is to expand this initiative, offering more scholarships to support the dreams of our young community members.”
